AAL refers to intelligent systems of assistance for a better, healthier and safer life in the preferred living environment and covers concepts, products and services that interlink and improve new technologies and the social environment.

Ambient Assisted Living as a concept aims to prolongate the time people can live in a decent way in their own home by increasing their autonomy and self-confidence, the discharge of monotonously everyday activities, to monitor and care for the elderly or ill person, to enhance the security and to save resources.

AAL is defined as assistant systems for the constitution of ‘intelligent environments’ aim to compensate predominantly age-related functional limitations of different target groups – through technological information and communication support in everyday life. At the same time they take charge of control and supervision services for an independent course of life.
